This seems to be a good step by step...Thanks Steve. This seems to be a good step by step idiots guide to doing this. However, I've a few of questions before going ahead. I guess some of this may become clear as I do it, apologies if that's the case. However I'd rather have as clear a path as I can me in front of me before I start rather than having to find my way via (too many) unexpected diversions as I am going along.

First. How long would you say this process will take someone like me. That is someone who has only rooted one phone before (an iphone 3gs) which I recall took the best part of a long day - most of which was spent, at each step, wondering and figuring what to do next from the various, and not always consistent, "how to's" I was using.

Now, going through the steps.

Software Update. My phone says it's software is up to date (it has the update automatically options selected, but I asked it for a manual update and it came back saying that it was up to date). Does this mean I can skip "1." or would you say do it anyway?

4. This is an instruction to install Universal ADB Driver on the PC or the phone?
5. Connect phone. In what mode?
4. (you're numbering is a little awry here as this is the second number 4.) Flash ROM in download mode. From the phone menu of the PC? Or, From a menu on the phone? From what menu on the phone? There is a "Factory Data Reset (Erases All Data on Phone)" option under Backup and Reset but I don't see the options, "wipe data/factory reset", "wipe cache partition" or "apply update from SD Card".

6.Install Android "SDK Tools Only". Install on the phone or on the PC (MAC, whatever)?
7.Connect Phone and Enable MTP. When was the phone disconnected? It was connected at 5. (the first 5.) but when did it get disconnected?

11. Partitioning. I have had my phone for a few months now and I have a fair amount of stuff and apps on my SD card already. As partitioning requires a format of the SD card should I simply copy what's on my SD card to the PC and then copy it back over once I've finished rooting and have created the two partitions. It can't be that easy? Can it? Also, are the partitions dynamic? If not what size would you recommend they be (I have a 32gb SD Card).

Oh, one more thing, not strictly related but you seem a knowledgeable guy, so. My phone seems to have three/four different cleaner/virus programmes on it. Clean Master, DU Booster and AVG. I also have wondershares mobilego (I used their transfer utility to move previous stuff over from my old iphone). I trust AVG as I've used this on my PC's and Laptops for years, however maybe these (to me) less familiar apps, DU/Master/mobilego are better established and developed in android world. I guess I only need one of these four. Which would you keep?androohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05063399879151412009noreply@blogger.com
